I’ve just finished reading Niall Ferguson’s Ascent Of Money. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

@zhou: it looks like the sort of thing a reader like you would enjoy. Not anecdotal like Manias, Panics and Crashes — lots of numbers and analysis in it, lots of very interesting insights, but so far nothing in it that is particularly technical. Thus far I am very impressed.
