VOX has launched a new initiative that is intended to act as a central forum for an open-format discussion of the global crisis. This promises to be quite interesting (I am acting as moderator for the macroeconomics theme; Luigi Zingales on regulation; Francesco Giavazzi on institutional reform; Dani Rodrik on development; and Richard Baldwin on open markets). FYI – Informative article on VOX by Carmen Reinhart (http://www.voxeu.org/index.php?q=node/2877) which gives an overiew of the economic and fiscal implications of financial cirses using data from historic financial crises in a range of countries. Would anybody like to put a guess on where Ireland might stand in relation to some of these data? The 80% drop in property prices suggested by some would be at the far end of the spectrum but…
