Dublin Theatre Festival

The highly-cultured readership of this site will be interested in the programme for the 2011 Dublin Theatre Festival which is available here.

Regular contributor Gavin Kostick has an excellent play in the Festival: Fight Night, which I saw a while ago. You can also listen to the RTE radio performance of this play here.

Would this be a good place to go to see some farce…. or shall I just keep on reading the FT?

Many thanks for the link to Gillian Tett’s silobusting talk. Well worth the hour’s listening. She has had a fascinating career to date and seems most unaffected by her success.

I was glad to hear the mention of ‘(Karl) Polanyi and things’. We are coming to grief now because we swallowed the Randite myth ‘there is no such thing as society’. Insofar as it was a necessary antidote to soviet totalitarianism, such thinking was fair enough, but as a recipe for the global economy it has been an unmitigated disaster.

I remember back in the 80s, a US friend of mine telling me that he saw graffit on a freeway bridge the day Reagan was elected.
