    Friday Stat Attack: How About A Housing Recovery For Those in Need?
    February 10, 2014, Michael Taft

    There are nearly 90,000 households in need of social housing. These households make up approximately 170,000 people. 60 percent have been waiting for two years or longer and since the start of the crisis, the numbers in need have increased by 60 percent.

    [T]he numbers in housing need have increased by 60 percent and social housing output has fallen by 82 percent (2008-2012).

    BTW When can the Irish Ciizenry have Grattan’s ‘piece of property’ back?

  2. The annual stipend of €20,000 is arguably too much for a PhD student in current circumstances. By comparison, net of tax and contributions, Irish universities tend to pay about €29k p.a. for a newly hired lecturer.

    I second your proposal and would of course be happy to supervise! Now all we need is a sufficiently well-resourced friend of Trinity to provide the resources…

    @Otto
    I’m not sure I agree. A good stipend is required to attract international quality PhD students, while it’s hard to argue that a premium of circa 50% is too small for a doctorate. Many of us could point to negative premiums!
